Acute Laryngitis

Acute laryngitis is an inflammation of the larynx or voice box. It is usually caused by a viral infection, such as the common cold, influenza, or croup. Symptoms include hoarseness, sore throat, and difficulty speaking. Laryngitis can also be caused by vocal abuse or overuse, such as from shouting or singing.

Thyroid Conditions

The thyroid is a gland located in the neck that produces hormones that regulate metabolism. Thyroid conditions include hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) and hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid). Symptoms of hyperthyroidism include weight loss, anxiety, and heart palpitations. Symptoms of hypothyroidism include fatigue, weight gain, and depression.

Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils. It is usually caused by a viral infection, such as the common cold, influenza, or mononucleosis. Symptoms include sore throat, fever, and swollen tonsils. Tonsillitis can also be caused by bacteria, such as strep throat.

Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is a condition in which stomach acid leaks back up into the esophagus. This can cause heartburn, chest pain, and difficulty swallowing. There are two types of acid reflux. The first is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which is a more serious condition that can lead to Barrett’s esophagus and esophageal cancer. The second is laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR), which is a less serious condition that can cause hoarseness, sore throat, and difficulty speaking.

If you are experiencing any of these issues, it is important to see an ENT specialist to get a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. Contact our ENT specialists today to schedule an appointment.
