Springtime is not just when warmer, more pleasant weather arrives to the Detroit area, as it’s also the time of the year when allergy season begins. Many people enjoy springtime in Michigan that ushers in warm, brilliant sunshine with grass sprouting up, flowers blooming and green leaves budding everywhere. But for those of you with allergies, the arrival of spring may not be so welcomed as you begin feeling the effects of springtime allergies.

Peak allergy season in Michigan typically starts around the first of May. This is when many local trees flower just before growing all their leaves. While it’s easy to spot a budding Magnolia tree as it begins to blossom, other trees are more subtle when it comes to flowering, such as maples and oaks. These flowering trees are often the problem with springtime allergies in our area because they rely on the wind to distribute the pollen while other flowering trees rely on bees and other insects to spread pollen.
